For one week, students from 2ºESO experienced an Immersion Program in English at an International Educational Centre called El Jarama in Madrid. Due to experiences like these, our students can be provided with an integrated education. All of this is taught through skill-based learning along with an education in values and academic excellence. Furthermore, it will help the students gain skills in a second language, English in this instance.
During this Immersion Program, the students learnt about Ecology, nature, wildlife and how to take care of the environment. They slept in dormitories adapted for them at the centre. They were constantly accompanied by monitors from various English-speaking countries and various school teachers.
There was a routine each day. At 8.30 they woke up to the sound of music. After getting up, they had breakfast and started the day with different dynamics (games, dancing etc) in order to fill them with energy. Not just the morning, but also afternoons were used to do several tasks related to a project called “The future of our planet”. The students were aware of the importance to look after the environment and also the risks if you do not look after it. In the evenings, as soon as they had snack, they had a thirty-minute gap where they were able to call their family and friends to tell them about what they had done during the day. After the calls they had showers and dinner. The best part of the day was the night activity. On the finalnight of the camp there was a disco. These activities at night helped them go to bed with a smile on their faces knowing that they had had fun.
To sum up, it was an unforgettable experience for our students who constantly expressed their delight and opinions positively with the desire to repeat it in the following years to come.
